Athletes For Computer Science is proud to receive a letter of support from Warren County Schools in Warrenton, North Carolina. There students and staff have been a joy to work with and we have had a great school year so far. We are looking forward to finishing the school year strong.

Fourth year Detroit Lions safety Miles Killebrew joined the AFCS to encourage students at Northside Elementary in Warrenton, North Carolina. Miles spoke to the students about the importance of education and how being a good student paved the way for his NFL Career. Miles also spoke about the important of choosing the right friends and said that his choice of friends is one of the top reasons he made to to NFL. The 3rd grade students also got a chance to ask Miles questions about how he got to the NFL. Miles message to the students was that they can be whoever they want to be if they focus on their education first.
So far for the 2018/2019 school year 542 AFCS students have completed 34,303 CODE.ORG levels and written 317,137 lines of code. The programming concepts they have covered are sequencing, loops, nested loops, conditionals, and events. Beyond coding, students have learned about digital citizenship, cyber bullying, how computers work and how the internet works. Students will continue to deepen their understanding of computer science fundamentals throughout the rest of the 2019 school year.
